Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a common term used by VoIP providerfor the transmission technologies for delivery of voice over IP networks like the Internet or other packet-switched networks. Other terms synonymous and encountered with VOIP are VOIP IP telephony, voice over broadband, broadband phone, broadband telephony and Internet telephony.

Internet telephony refers to communications services like acsimile, voice, find/or voice-messaging applications that are transported via the Internet, rather than the public switched telephone network.

The steps involved in originating an Internet phone call are conversion of the analog voice signal to digital format and translation/ compression of the signal into Internet protocol (IP) packets to transmit over the Internet; the whole process is reversed at the receiving end.

The “Voice Over Internet Protocol” telephone system is one of the modes of telecommunication via internet. The abbreviated form of “Voice Over Internet Protocol” is VOIP. It is a form of advanced computer technology that has affected the telephone systems.

Voice Over Internet Protocol

Actually, there are three different types of VOIP services. The most commonly used service for business purposes is the VOIP service processed by using an “Analog Telephone Adapter” which is also known as ATA. It is the simplest type of VOIP service as ATA permits the use of a standard phone and it does not require any specifically designed IP phones that are generally used in other types of VOIP services.

ATA functions by transforming the analog signals into a set of digital packets. These packets are forwarded to the broadband internet connection and are apportioned to the apt and appropriate telephone exchange for the call to get completed.

How The Use Of VOIP Phones Is Advantageous In Business

The VOIP telephone service has been gaining popularity tremendously, especially, in the field of businesses. The VOIP service providers permit the utilization of standard telephones which enables to make phone calls through a telephone connected to a landline telephone system.

The VOIP system is inexpensive as the making of calls by using this system does not require any setting of phone lines and even the charges of calls are very cheap. This feature of cheap call rates is very much beneficial for the business people who are managing their businesses at international levels. It is the most efficient method of telephone system.

Difference Between VOIP Telephone System And Regular Telephone System

When converting from traditional telephone service to VoIP, many people choose to use their old analog phones and convert the signal using an adaptor or router. This may not, however, be possible for all service providers. For state-of-the art installations or installations where VoIP phone hardware is required, the choice is to upgrade your handsets to VoIP phones. These special VoIP phones may look just like a traditional telephone handsets but instead of having the standard RJ-11 phone connection you are accustomed to, they will have an Ethernet connector (RJ-45). VoIP phones connect directly to your network, probably through your router. True VoIP phones have all the hardware and software you need to take advantage of all the features VoIP telephony.

VoIP phone communication requires a broadband (high speed Internet) connection which you can access through a cable modem or other high speed service. This service will be purchased from a third party provider. If you want to access VoIP phone services using your traditional hand sets, you will need your computer, a router or ATA adaptor. If you have a true VoIP phone, your connection will be directly through your broadband connection and you will dial just as you normally would. You can also access VoIP phone service directly through your computer. This will require software and a headset/microphone. USB VoIP phone sets are also available and very convenient.

There are different types of VoIP phones. An Ethernet hard VoIP phone will look to the naked eye much like a traditional handset. Its connection is through an Ethernet port and it will communicate directly through your VoIP connection. It does not require a computer and it operates essentially the same way that your old landline did. In many cases you will actually have a dial tone.

One of the more popular VoIP phone options is a cordless phone with base station. These convenient VoIP phones contain the Internet interface in the base station. Another less prevalent type of VoIP phone is a dialup hard phone with a built-in modem. We don’t see this type of phone too often in North America, but there are places in the world where this type of phone is necessary due to limited access to broadband connections. These phones connect to a VoIP server via a dial-up Internet connection.

Another VoIP phone option to consider is a WiFi phone. A WiFi VoIP phone generally has a built in transmitter which connects to a WiFi base station. From the base station the signal is transmitted to a remote VoIP server. WiFi VoIP phones do not require a computer.

As you research your options for VoIP phones you may see references to hard phones and soft phones. We have discussed several hard phone options above. These are actual handsets that work with VoIP technology. When we receive our telephone service through your computer using software and a headset/microphone it is referred to as a soft phone. A key advantage of soft phones is that they can be considerably cheaper than hard phones. In fact, there are many soft phone options that are available for very little cost or free.

VoIP – Three ways to make a VoIP call

VoIP stands for “Voice over Internet Protocol” and is going to change the way you think about making long distance phone calls. Basically, VoIP technology turns analog audio signals (i.e. the sounds you hear when talking on your regular telephone) into a digital signal (which is then transmitted over the Internet.)

One of the interesting components about Unblock VoIP is that there’s not just one way to make a VoIP call. There are actually three ways to make a VoIP call:

1) VoIP via ATA: is the most commonly used VoIP method right now. Using the ATA (analog telephone adaptor), you connect your regular telephone to your computer or Internet connection. The ATA is an analog-to-digital converter and it takes the analog signal from your phone and converts it into digital data and transmits it over the Internet so you are able to make VoIP calls.
