This it is not so bad in real, but in combination with Second Life Speech Tools (search in here on YouTube for Second Life Speech Tools to see video presentations). Then you will not hear people voices, but artificial, human undistinguishable voices telling what is writen in the chat. Look on the video.
I didn’t see any way to tell ahead of time if someone has voice enabled on their client. This could cause some confusion. I duno if the nametag system is capable of displaying icons, but I would hope they would be able to put some sort of speaker icon next to the names above our heads hehe.
Actually, from my ‘bad’ conversation with Monroe, the voice servers and service do not touch the grid itself, It’s all seperate servers, to make sure it doesn’t lag SL itself.

I don’t want to hear people’s voices in Second Life. How annoying this could become.
