Product Description
The Zoom Phone Adapter for Skype lets you use your favorite phone with Skype. You can plug a normal phone into the adapter, and then make or receive calls using that phone. You can even plug in a cordless base station for 1, 2, 4, or even more cordless phones, and then make or receive calls using any of those phones! The Zoom Phone Adapter is easy to install and use, but it’s very powerful, especially if you choose to plug the adapter into normal phone service. Powerful bridging functions allow Skype calls to be forwarded to cell/mobile phones and other conventional phone numbers. This lets you use a mobile phone (“cell phone”) to make calls using Skype and save lots of money, or to receive Skype calls, making you easier to reach. Remote phones can also dial into the adapter to make outbound Skype calls. The Model 5900 is USB port powered to reduce power adapter clutter. NOT for windows 7 64-bit unless you are a techie and are looking for a good challenge.
I’m sure this adapter would be great for other versions of windows, but after trying the driver that came with the device w/ no luck, then going to the zoom website and finding no compatible driver (tried/failed the 32 bit driver), I finally contacted the manufacturer customer service, the following is the response I got (this was their 2nd response, I am not a techie, I have no clue how to follow their instructions and I still do no know if I should use the driver that came with the device or the online 32 bit windows 7 driver…I am going to try again to get a little clarification from them but I’m not holding out much hope for a clear response)
“The drivers are only for Windows 7 32 bits, if you have 64 bits, in order to install the adapter you need to disable the driver signature enforcement, to do that before the computer start at the black screen press F8 and at the advance boot menu, select disable driver signature enforcement.”

I went from a $56.00 a month phone bill with a BIG NAME Telco to a $39.00 a month one, to a $29.00 with my cable to this for less than $6.00 a month. Sound quality is pretty decent most the time, especially with High Speed internet. I recently downgraded to economy internet and I do notice a slight decrease in quality, but it is still very usable considering the savings.
Only negatives are that it doesn’t do 911 calls and you have to be aware of your internet use. If you are downloading, or if you are on a shared home network where others are using the network for gaming, you may see these things affect the quality of the calls. If you have full control of the internet, the calls are usually nice and clean.
Personally, I have a Cell, but I don’t want everyone calling that number. Plus it’s still nice to have a home number with the ability to turn it on and off via software. When I do us it, I love it. I am in US and all I do is pick up the cordless I have attached to it. I dial 0111, then the number, then press * and I am calling. Well worth the money savings.

This box is great, it perfectly responded to my needs of disconnecting my normal snail phone line and doing all calls through skype. The sound quality is very good.
I did not give five stars because the dual mode using both the skype system and the snail phone apparently only works with “regular” non-modem based snail telephone lines. I tried having it work with a telephone hooked up through a Comcast broadband modem and it did not work. This seems to check out with the other one star review of this product which had his snail phone connected through DSL.

I am uing this product since two months. The installation was as easy as a printer installation. With a US/Canada monthly subscription (2.9 USD), you really can eliminate the land line phone; to be more correct, the billing per minute part of it. unfortunately it is not fault of this product that a free or cheap skype number is almost impossible. That would have made this system superior on any other on price/quality. After every call, Skype always ask to rate the quality of the call. Every time I took the time to rate it excellent, it is so obvious so you are sorry not to give it. I am only on the research of the feature SMS from cordless phone. I do have Gigaset (used in Europe and UK) enabled with SMS and I want to use instead of going to the PC. Overall great product “married” to a great service
