Isn’t OOMA’s presentation misleading? I thought Verizon owned the lines going into my house? How can I throw away their bill and still use VOIP?! I would still be forced to use (and pay) to get internet access from somewhere!? Whether satellite, cable, or phone company … Does OOMA have a deal where they pay Verizon for using the DSL line? … throw away your bill? … it’s misleading.

Beware – Ooma apparently has gone out of business. The Ooma service desk line has been disconnected. My emails have gone unanswered for several days. Do not buy this product as there is no support.

$212.99 for a VOIP phone! This is ridiculous, no matter how good this product is.
I used to refer to Amazon reviews before buying stuffs. After seeing (No, I did not waste my time reading) so many GREAT reviews on this expensive toy, I think I will think twice when I read reviews from Amazon.
I can’t hold my laugh when I saw people kept on saying “No monthly bills!”, “No monthly fees” ans such. I guess ATT will be more than happy if people pay them one year’s fee before hand so people can enjoy the benefit of “NO MONTHLY FEE”.

I have not tried ooma but it seems to still be a rip off. Money wise. Look I have had THE MAGIC JACK for a long while. The cost is only $19.00 a YEAR. did you hear me a YEAR. And look I thought I was having a problem with my computer called them they couldn’t help me so I said what the hay and called the people of magic jack they helped me out with my computer problems. So spend $99.00 or what ever it is a year or just spend $20.00 hey it’s your dollar not mine.

This looks like a great product, & I’ve spoken to several who really like it. But check out MagicJack first. It costs $50 a year for unlimited domestic phone calls, & has tons of features, incl low cost international calls. Recently I got an offer to extend my use when it expires for $39 a year.
It’s a VOIP system, so you need your computer on, but you can travel with it, even overseas, & still get unlimited calls to US numbers. You can buy one & give it to a friend overseas & then he or she will have a domestic US tel # & be able to call anyone here for $50 a year.
I’ve used it since 4/08 & never had any problems except when my internet provider’s signal strength wimped out. It’s a little thingy that plugs into the USB port, and then into your telephone.
The feature I like the most is that when I’m not at home & my laptop with MJ is not on, if someone calls me, it goes to MagicJack in cyberspace & I get an audio email – so I am always in touch.
Ooma seems luxurious in comparison to MagicJack, & it looks very cool, but most of us would have to use it for at least two years to recoup the large outlay, and I bet anything within two years there will be other options like MagicJack. I’m just going to stay on the real cheap side.
Just google MagicJack. The guy who invented this was really smart, but the smartest thing was making it so cheap. & no, I do not work for this company! I’m just trying to save as much money as I can.
