yes – but last i checked, you can only select US based phone numbers (area codes) . . . so if you want to make calls to the US and have people in the US call you for free, that’ll work…
otherwise I think they charge for international calls – for example, if I was in the UK, and wanted to call you on your cell phone registered in Holland, it would cost me.
not sure – depends on what you mean by long distance – - within the usa it shouldn’t be an issue – if you’re trying to call overseas or mexico/canada (not sure on canada) you need to buy minutes… – i’m not with MJ – just made a video here… check with their online support – contrary to what other people say, they ARE helpful if you aren’t obnoxious to them.
i think that has to do with the way MJ works – not sure it can detect where it is based on an ip address compared to the area code you’re in – thus having to dial the 10 digits no matter what
I picked my local area code prefix and I have to dial the area code everytime even out to local calls. Glad that wasn’t just me(or is it?) Stil, its a small annoyance for a lifetime of savings! Majic jack>big phone companies!
SassVideo I use the MJ on MacPro that runs Little Snitch without any problems. All you need to do is set set a rule for Little Snitch to allow any connection and you should be good to go.
I am using MagicJack without problems on my MacPro Dual + on a new MacBook. The only compatibility issue I have is that it will NOT work while Little Snitch is running. It does not matter how you tinker with LS and tell it that MagicJack is OK. So long as Little snitch is running, MagicJack will not.
I’m not sure if it is compatible but I would love to hook it up to a server. I can have access to a gaming server that runs video games but it also offers a voice service. So via some game server thats on 24/7 you add the magicjack you could have it on all day and night and use it for teamchat during a video game. From what I’ve seen it might not be compatible with windows servers yet. I’ve seen however it worked with some wireless services. Wish it worked with a pc tablet.
hmm. . . i think when they said we support mac – they just meant that it’d work on a mac… i’m on a mac, but the phone i have hooked up doesn’t have caller id on it so i wasn’t aware of this shortcoming… i’m sure they’ll eventually add it.
Why does Magicjack display the caller ID on the softphone but not on the telephone. It only shows “incoming Call”. I’m using a Mac, and I did a research on some forums about this topic, and all of them affirm that the company doesn’t support caller ID on Mac OS X “yet”. Well, MagicJack say “we support Mac”? but they don’t mention this to the public. PS; All of the rest work just fine.
I experienced a lot of breaking up with Magic Jack and the sound quality was terrible! There are so many other FREE VoIP services out there, with customer support. We got free unlimited calls to US & Canada for our business with fastmetrics managed voip.
The important thing was, the quality of sound was great and they have 24/7 tech support, if needed.
Hallo guys can you post return address because its impossible to find on any of your web pages.
NO is not working for me tried everything and that live typing support I dont like it at all there is no life conversation on the phone .Please post the return address .Thanks
well, i’m not sure what their failure rate is, but you know the saying (is so true)… one unhappy customer tells everyone, satisfied customers tell next to no one…. the quiet majority.
I also don’t use mine very often – but whenever I do, it almost always works fine…. i noticed it had done some sort of interface upgrade about a month or two ago without my doing anything on my end. It included a previous call list on the window and programmable contact list.
i don’t know how you got so lucky for it to work. iam on xp with cabe. all it does is freeze up my pc. and live support sucks cant never get through. i read support stuff and did what it said. no luck.

As far as I know, it’s free calling within North America. I’m in Canada and my Magic Jack does Canada, and U.S no charges.

yeah, that is a drawback . . . not so much if you have a desktop – mine stays on 24/7,
but laptops are at a disadvantage – when you close the lid… bye bye phone…
but at the end of the day, it’s still a fantastic deal

the bad part about the magic jack is that you have to have your computer on all the time because otherewise your internet connection wont be active
